Basement 2.0

After some major radio silence, we’re back! The painfully slow progress on the basement made me loathe to blog (no one wants to read: today we got absolutely nothing done. Hope you enjoy the same photo a month in a row), but I am ecstatic to report that the basement is, if not completely finished, at least thisclose.

Last time we left off, I think it was something like this:

When you walk downstairs now, this is the most cozy scene that will meet your eyes:

This did not happen overnight. Or in a fortnight. Or in any reasonable time measurement. It took us from May until the first week of January to get there. That is a long freaking time.

From the first photo above, the following happened:
·         Cover carpet
·         Demo all walls and ceiling (hello, evidence of long absent rodents!)
·         Suck moisture out of walls (this took two humidifiers about three months. We pulled hundreds of gallons of water out of there).
·         Waterproof cinderblocks
·         Re-frame room
·         Re-frame again after we incorrectly spaced first frame
·         Insulate room
·         Cut and install drywall
·         Tape and mud drywall
·         Discover carpet has been ruined by moldy wall bits that got stuck under “protective” tarps
·         Prime and paint all remaining woodwork
·         Paint & stencil new walls
·         Rip out carpet
·         Install new carpet
·         Paint and add trim work

Which brings us to this!

Granimal caption: I have been restored to my rightful throne.

The basement is not only habitable (and no longer a haven for rotovirus), but a place we are actually love to show to people. Bonus, Gracie LOVES being able to come into the room again! She’ll probably want to share about that herself.

Lots of posts to come, oversharing how we went from horror movie set to north woods haven.
